During the drying process of synthetic rubber hazardous situations can
not always be excluded. In order to estimate the hazardous potential o
f the type of rubber considered here, the relevant safety data were de
termined experimentally. It appeared that the usual safety characteris
tics for samples of combustible particles (dust) are applicable only p
artially and with restrictions to rubber. The evaluation of the experi
ments showed that the most significant source of hazard is the devolat
ilization of flammable gases (styrene) during drying.
