The reaction of NiSO4.aq, N,N-dimethylethylenediamine (dmeda) and NaN3
afforded the mononuclear Ni(dmeda)(2)(N-3)(2). The structure of the c
omplex was determined by X-ray crystallography. A trans,trans,trans ge
ometry with respect to NMe(2), NH2 and N-3(-) nitrogens was found, wit
h an inversion centre. Magnetic susceptibility measurements (4-300 K)
showed normal Curie behaviour from 300 K down to ca 40 K, after that (
down to 2 K) weak antiferromagnetism due to coupling between mononucle
ar units was observed.
