Abstract
The seed oil of Pimpinella acuminata species of the family Umbellifera e was extracted with chloroform : methanol (2:1) for the separation of different classes of lipids as hydrocarbons (1.7%), sterol esters (tr aces), triglycerides (74.1%), free fatty acids (6.6%), 1,3-diglyceride s (1.6%), 1,2-diglycerides (1.6%), sterols (1.8%), monoglycerides (2.0 %), phosphatidyl ethanolamine (0.8%), phosphatidyl choline (1.2%), lys e phosphatidyl ethanolamine (0.4%), phosphatidyl inositol (1.2%) and u nknown (7.0%). The fatty acids as determined by application of gas liq uid chromatography is C-10-C-22, whereas C-16:0 C-18:0, C-18:1 and C-1 8:2 are predominantly present in all polar and nonpolar lipid classes.
