In this paper, we report the detection of a metric continuum burst sou
rce at the top of a coronal loop observed in soft X-rays. The continuu
m burst was probably a flare continuum that lasted more than 1 hr. Thi
s is the first observation of such metric continuum emission produced
by energetic electrons with high-spatial resolution imaging instrument
s in both X-rays and radio. The nonthermal radio emission appears to b
e associated with the rupture of a part of the loop top and the ejecti
on of soft X-ray plasma at the top of the coronal loop. We have also i
dentified X-ray coronal structures in which type III emitting electron
beams propagate. The metric continuum is most likely caused by second
-harmonic plasma emission, and the electron density in the soft X-ray
structure where type IIIs are observed is close to the critical plasma
density derived from radio observations.
