Abstract
Reaction of L(+)-ascorbic acid (H(2)Asc) with TlMe(2)OOCCH(3), SnMe(2) O, and SnBu(2)Cl(2) (in this last case, in the presence of Et(3)N) aff orded [TlMe(2)(HAsc)].1/2 C3H8O, [SnMe(2)(Asc)], and [SnBu(2)(Asc)], r espectively. The new compounds were studied in the solid state by CP/M AS C-13 NMR and IR spectroscopy, and in aqueous solution by H-1,C-13, Tl-205, and Sn-119 Sn NMR spec troscopy. The thallium compound behaves as a salt. In the tin derivatives, the metal appears to interact with the (AsC)(2-) anion through the O(1), O(2), and O(3) atoms of the lac tone ring. Other possible weak interactions of the tin complexes in th e solid state are also discussed.
