Making use of QCD sum rules a lower bound is found which relates the e
lectromagnetic polarizability alpha(E) and mean-square radius [r(pi)(2
)] of charged pions through the intrinsic polarizability <(alpha)over
tilde(E)> = alpha(E) - alpha[r(pi)(2)]/(3M(pi)). We find that if prese
nt constraints on the QCD continuum (duality) threshold are accepted,
this lower bound on the intrinsic polarizability <(alpha)over tilde(E)
> is incompatible with some previous determinations of alpha(E) and [r
(pi)(2)].
