Cd. Zick et Cr. Allen, THE IMPACT OF PARENTS MARITAL-STATUS ON THE TIME ADOLESCENTS SPEND INPRODUCTIVE ACTIVITIES, Family relations, 45(1), 1996, pp. 65-71
Time-diary data front single-mother and two-parent families are utiliz
ed to examine differences in how adolescents use productive time in th
ree domains: housework school work: and paid employment. Multivariate
analyses reveal. suggestive evidence that living in a single-parent fa
mily increases adolescent girls' employment time and decreases adolesc
ent boys' school time relative to girls and boys living in two-parent
families. The adolescent's age and the mother's education and employme
nt status appear to be more important influences on time allocation th
an is family structure.
