Abstract
The effects of 7.6 mu M ABA added to Murashige and Skoog nutrient medi um on the growth rate and the initiation of embryogenic cell aggregate s were studied on suspension cultures of spring hard wheat (Triticum d urum L., cv. Khar'kovskaya 46). For 28 days of culturing, ABA substant ially decreased the total cell volume, lowered the content of endogeno us IAA three times, and prevented early formation of root primordia kn own to hinder further embryogenesis. ABA is suggested to facilitate ma turation of embryoids by shifting the hormonal balance in cultured cel ls.
