A new fluorimetric reagent, salicylaldehyde benzalhydrazone has been e
stablished. The fluorimetric reaction of the reagent with copper was c
arried out in aqueous medium at pH=9.0 and studied in detail. The fluo
rescence excitation and emission wave-lengths of the complex are 300 n
m and 410 nm respectively. The linear range is 0.0 similar to 0.8 mu m
/10 mL, the detection limit is 12.4 ng/mL and the molar ratio of coppe
r to the reagent is 1 : 1. The method has been applied to the determin
ation of trace copper in tea and hair with satisfactory results.
