This paper considers some results of experimental studies conducted by
the authors, addressing the causes of the anisotropy of natural ocean
noise and its parameters of variations. The characteristics of ocean
inhomogeneities affecting ocean noise fields are analyzed. Their influ
ence on a lens of foreign water, congestions of migrating bionts, an i
nternal wave, a squall with rain, and a seamount is examined. The expe
riments were conducted with the use of vertical linear antenna arrays
during expeditions of the research vessel Akademik Nikolai Andreev in
various oceans. The results are compared to calculations obtained usin
g a model constructed in the framework of ray theory allowing for inho
mogeneities in noise-generating water areas. The effect of deviations
of the antenna axis from the vertical on the measurement data is analy
zed.
