B. Djulbegovic et al., SAFETY AND EFFICACY OF PURIFIED FACTOR-IX CONCENTRATE AND ANTIFIBRINOLYTIC AGENTS FOR DENTAL EXTRACTIONS IN HEMOPHILIA-B, American journal of hematology, 51(2), 1996, pp. 168-170
This study evaluated the safety and efficacy of combined treatment wit
h E-aminocaproic acid or tranexamic acid and monoclonal antibody purif
ied factor IX (MAb factor IX) for prophylaxis against bleeding in eigh
t hemophilia a patients undergoing nine dental extraction procedures,
All patients achieved excellent hemostasis without clinical evidence o
f thrombosis, there were no significant changes in hemoglobin or hemat
ocrit or in markers of hemostatic system activation (prothrombin fragm
ent F-1+2, fibrinopeptide A, and fragment B beta(15-42)) after surgery
. Thus, a highly purified factor IX concentrate and antifibrinolytic t
herapy can be effectively and safely combined in hemophilia a patients
undergoing dental extractions. (C) 1996 Wiley-Liss, Inc.
