M. Howell et al., FINITE-ELEMENT ANALYSIS OF ROLLING-CONTACT FOR NONLINEAR KINEMATIC HARDENING BEARING STEEL, Journal of tribology, 117(4), 1995, pp. 729-736
A Mroz image point, two surface, nonlinear-kinematic-hardening-plastic
(MNKP) representation of bearing steel is inserted into a finite elem
ent model of 2-dimensional, line contact for pure rolling. The calcula
tions are compared with previous results for the same con tact pressur
e derived for elastic-linear-kinematic-hardening-plastic (ELKP) behavi
or. The residual stress, deformation, and the connection between conti
nuing cyclic deformation, etching bands, and cracks are analyzed. Unli
ke the ELKP constitutive properties, the MNKP behavior displays a dist
inct transient region which results in higher residual stresses.
