The aim of our investigations was to describe the morphological change
s in the epithelium of the ampulla region of the ewe uterine tube ampu
lla on days 2, 7, 17, 25 and 34 post partum. Shortly after the parturi
tion the epithelium was low. Ciliated cells were dark with few kinocil
ia and secretory cells were light in colour and contained no secretory
granules. On days 17 and 25 post partum the ciliated cells were high.
They had well-developed granular endoplasmic reticulum, ribosomes, an
d developing basal corpuscles and kinocilia. Secretory cells contained
a well-developed Golgi complex, granular endoplasmic reticulum and nu
merous secretory granules of varied size, shape, and density. On day 3
4 post partum, the ciliated cells had numerous kinocilia on their apic
al surface. Secretory cells released their product into the oviduct lu
men through pores or high protrusions of cells detached, decomposed, a
nd became the part of the secretion.
