MOLECULAR RECOGNITION OF SOME AMINES BY KRYPTOFIX [2.2] AND [2.2.2]

The possibility of macrobicyclic ligands :diaza crown [2.2] (1, 7, 10, 16-trrtraoxa-4, 13-diazocyclooctadecan) and cryptand [2.2.2] (4, 7, 1 3, 16, 21, 24-hexaoxa-1, 10 diazobicyclo [8.8.8] hexacosane) to comple x the cationic species of amines in protonated form (methylamine, dime thylamine, diethylamine and n-propylamine) has been investigated. Thes e cationic complexes may be extracted as ions using picrate as counter ion. Binding selectivity of [2.2] and [2.2.2], assessed by the extract ion of amine picrates was found to be very good. The extraction consta nts of the amines have been determined by UV-VIS spectroscopic techniq ues.
