Ps. Kildal et Z. Sipus, CLASSIFICATION OF ROTATIONALLY SYMMETRICAL ANTENNAS AS TYPES BOR(0) AND BOR(1), IEEE antennas & propagation magazine, 37(6), 1995, pp. 114-117
Several antennas are bodies of revolution (BORs), e.g. conical-horn an
tennas and biconical antennas. This note proposes to classify such ant
ennas as types BOR(0) and BOR(1), depending on whether the polar compo
nents of the radiation field have zeroth- or first-order phi variation
s around the symmetry axis of the BOR. The BOR(0) antennas can be exci
ted by axially located and axially oriented electric or magnetic monop
oles or dipoles. The BOR(1) antennas can be excited by axially located
and transversely oriented short electric or magnetic dipoles. The not
e describes the general characteristics of BOR(0) and BOR(1) antennas,
and gives results for how well long half-wave dipoles can excite BOR(
1) antennas.
