The study reports priorities for contacting a counseling centre for gi
fted children and adolescents. The sample includes the clients of the
counseling centre for the gifted at the University of Munich conducted
by the authors (1988-1994). The results present four dominant feature
s structuring the motives for contacting the counseling centre. If the
counseling centre place some emphases differently the motives for con
tacting are influenced. Furthermore we found effects of the age, the g
ender, the level of lest intelligence of the children, the social stat
us of the parents in regard to the priorities of motives for contactin
g the counseling centre. Selected details of these features are presen
ted and the implications for counseling are discussed.
