Abstract
Aqueous extracts of 9 indigenous plant materials were screened in vitr o for their activity against Trypanosoma evansi at concentration of 5, 50, 500 and 1000 mu g/ml. The extracts of leaves of Achyranthus asper a, Caesalpinia bonducella and Dhatura alba did not show activity at an y concentration tested. The extracts of other plants, viz. Azadirachta indica leaves, Cassia occidentalis leaves, Cyperus rotundus rhizome, H ydrocotyle asiatica leaves and Streblus asper leaves, exhibited modera te trypanocidal activity at different concentrations tested. However, the extract of Nyctanthes arbor-tristis at a concentration of 1000 mu g/ml was highly effective.
