The biokinetics of nalidixic acid (NA) was investigated in afebrile, f
ebrile and probenecid (PB) treated febrile goats after single dose ora
l administration (50 mg/kg). The Cp(max) of NA could not differ signif
icantly in afebrile-NA (28.58+/-1.23 mu g/ml) and febrile-NA goats (28
.69+/-0.63 mu g/ml). However, 41.58% increase in Cp(max), observed in
febrile-PB-treated goats showed a prolongation in t1/2 beta value to t
he extent of 16.22+/-2.95 hr. The Cl-H value in febrile-NA goals (1.9/-0.05 ml/kg/min) Was lower as compared to that in afebrile-NA goals (
5.31+/-0.07 ml/kg/min). PB interaction decreased significantly the val
ue of Cl-H and Cl-B to 0.37+/-0.01 and 097+/-0.10 ml/kg/min respective
ly. The dosage regimen of NA based on the kinetic values in febrile go
ats with PD would be 50 mg/kg bw orally at 48 hr interval.
