Gg. Adamian et al., EFFECT OF THE RATIO N Z IN A PROJECTILE ON THE DISTRIBUTION OF EXCITATION-ENERGY AMONG THE PRODUCTS OF DEEP-INELASTIC HEAVY-ION COLLISIONS/, Physics of atomic nuclei, 59(1), 1996, pp. 82-90
The effect of the ratio N/Z in a projectile on the distribution of exc
itation energy among the products of deep-inelastic heavy-ion collisio
ns and on the variances and positions of maxima of charge and mass dis
tributions of these products is studied in the microscopic approach. T
he role of nucleon exchange and particle-hole excitations in the conve
rsion of the kinetic energy of relative motion into internal nuclear e
nergy is investigated. It is shown that in the reactions Ar-34,Ar-40,A
r-46 + Cm-248, Ca-40,Ca-44,Ca-48,Ca-54 + Cm-248, and Ca-40,Ca-48 + U-2
38, excitation energy is about evenly divided between projectile-like
and target-like nuclei. This distribution of excitation energy is inve
stigated as a function of the mass number of the projectile isotope. N
ucleon exchange between interacting nuclei is shown to be the principa
l mechanism of kinetic-energy dissipation.
