Factorial row-column designs are often required for field trials in ag
ricultural, horticultural and forestry research, but no general method
ology is available to produce efficient designs. This paper describes
a new objective function defined in such away that varying degrees of
emphasis can be given to main effects in the factorial situation. A co
mputer program to generate such designs has been adapted from the simu
lated annealing algorithm of John and Whitaker. The program can also a
ccommodate the Latinized row-column designs of Williams.
