Abstract
Alopecia has been described in patients infected with the human immuno deficiency virus (HIV). Zidovudine reportedly influences hair growth i n these patients, causing regrowth or thickening. A 33-year-old HIV-in fected man developed alopecia areata after beginning zidovudine therap y. The alopecia reversed after the drug was discontinued.
