Determination of tromethamine (2-amino-2-hydroxymethyl-1,3-propanediol
) in human plasma and urine has been developed and validated. The meth
od utilizes reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatographic sep
aration and fluorescence detection of a pre-column derivative. The ass
ay was linear in the ranges of 1-200 mu g/ml plasma and 5-500 mu g/ml
urine with accuracies (mean percent recovery) all within 10% of 100% a
nd precisions (coefficient of variation) all less than 10%.
