Abstract
The adhesive properties of two domestic hardwood species beechwood and oakwood have been estimated by analyzing the surface chemical composi tion determined by ESCA (XPS). The estimated reactivity of wood, based on the occurrence of certain types of carbon bonds that corresponds t o specific wood components, was proved by wetting measurements and the determination of adhesion expressed as the pull-off strength of polyu rethane coating. Beechwood showed better adhesive properties than oakw ood.
