OPTICAL POWER LIMITING IN MULTILAYER SYSTEMS WITH NONLINEAR RESPONSE

Optical power limiting is studied in multilayer systems where alternat e layers exhibit nonlinear response. It is shown that the existence of optical limiting depends on the sign of the coupling of the Kerr nonl inearity. Approximate analytic results an found for single-layer syste ms, which suggest trends in the more complex multilayer systems.
