Introduction, Isolated areas of hypopigmented skin can be a manifestat
ion of mycosis fungoides. This is a rare clinical form with a particul
ar clinical course and histology which has been described only in blac
k subjects. Case report. Over a 10-year period, a 28-year-old woman fr
om Mall developed non-infiltrated hypopigmented and discretely squamou
s macules involving the entire body. The diagnosis of mycosis fungoide
s was made on pathology evidence of epidermotropic lymphocyte infiltra
tion with a few small nests. PUVA led to rapid regression of the lesio
ns. Discussion, Hypopigmented mycosis fungoides has been described in
young black subjects (mean age 19 years). The diagnosis is usually mad
e late because benign skin affection is usually the first diagnosis (p
ityriasis alba, pityriasis versicolor). The pathogenesis of these hypo
pigmented lesions is not known. PUVA appears to be effective in most c
ases.
