We have investigated the dynamics of a sidegroup polymer, poly(vinyl m
ethyl ether) (PVME) in the time scale between 10(-11) s and 10(-13) s
by means of time-of-flight quasi-elastic neutron scattering below and
around the glass transition T(g). The quasi-elastic broadening of the
spectra are interpreted in terms of a local motion of the methyl sideg
roups and a model for this motion is presented. Additional scattering
appears in the quasi-elastic range at T>T(g). Some preliminary results
concerning the dynamics of this system above the glass transition are
also reported.
