A review is given on therapies for cattle infected with Brucella speci
es. Although there is presently a lack of low cost, effective medical
treatment for these infections, recent developments suggest that new t
herapies are about to become available. Those discussed are combinatio
ns of antibiotics, more effective potent antibiotics, liposome encapsu
lation of antibiotics (to increase their potency and to deliver these
to the site of infection), new liposome formulations, bacteriophage th
erapy, vaccination after infection and immune-modulators. The followin
g review describes some of these new therapies and presents some benef
its and limitations in their use.
