Uk. Mandal et al., EFFECT OF ZINC STEARATE ON THE RHEOLOGY OF IONIC ELASTOMER BASED ON CARBOXYLATED NITRILE RUBBER, Polymer engineering and science, 36(2), 1996, pp. 283-287
Monsanto rheometry, melt viscometry, differential scanning calorimetry
, and dynamic mechanical spectroscopy have been used to study the effe
cts of zinc stearate on the rheological behavior of ionomer based on c
arboxylated nitrile rubber (XNBR) - zinc oxide (ZnO) system. At temper
atures below its melting point, zinc stearate functions asa reinforcin
g agent for ionomer formation. Above its melting point, it acts as a p
lasticizer for the ionic domains, thereby facilitating easy processing
of the ionomer.
