W. Rudzinski et al., A THEORETICAL-MODEL FOR ADSORPTION OF SURFACTANTS FROM AQUEOUS-SOLUTIONS ONTO ACTIVATED CARBONS, Polish Journal of Chemistry, 70(2), 1996, pp. 231-252
An extensive experimental study of adsorption of various surfactants f
rom aqueous solutions on four different activated carbons is reported.
Both adsorption isotherms and the accompanying heats of adsorption ar
e investigated. A theoretical description of the mechanism of adsorpti
on in these systems is proposed, based on a model of multi-site occupa
ncy adsorption on an energetically heterogeneous surface. Its utility
is verified by a simultaneous quantitative fit of experimental adsorpt
ion isotherms and the related heats of adsorption.
