Abstract
This paper presents a fuzzy logic controller for series reactance swit ching to damp power system electromechanical oscillations. A set of co ntrol rules are constructed and inference is provided by fuzzy logic r easoning. The knowledge base for the controller is established from ob servation of the dynamical behaviour of a simple power system and the general engineering knowledge about the system dynamics. The performan ce of the controller is shown to be robust and comparable to that of a minimum-time optimal controller.
