Abstract
The determination of the structure of the title compound, C25H28N4O6, shows that the benzyl group is attached to the N atom at the tau posit ion of the imidazole ring of histidine. In the solid state, the molecu le displays a conformation that is favourable for intramolecular alpha -C proton abstraction by the pi-N atom of the imidazole ring, as has b een suggested in the explanation of the racemization mechanism.
