A static interlocking nailing technique is used in the tratment of fra
cture of the third metacarpal bone. This technique has achieved maximu
m stabilization in difficult fractures of the equine limb. The method
is designed to prevent rotation at the fracture site and eliminate sho
rtening which, in turn, prevents loss of fracture reduction. Four MCII
I fracture cases and long-term results that were treated using a titan
ium interlocking nail are described.
