Alloys with the composition RE(2)Mo(3)Ge(4) (RE = Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm,
Lu and Y) have been synthesised by the are melting technique. From roo
m-temperature X-ray powder diffraction analysis, the alloys were found
to crystallise with the composition Ce2Sc3Si4, i.e. the ordered Sm5Ge
4-type structure (space group, Pnma). The RE(2)Mo(3)Ge(4) compounds ex
hibit antiferromagnetism at low temperature for RE = Tb, Dy, Ho and Er
whilst Tm2Mo3Ge4 does not show any magnetic order above 5 K and Lu2Mo
3Ge4 exhibits temperature-independent paramagnetism.
