J. Koshy et al., SUPERCONDUCTIVITY IN YBA2CU3O7-DELTA-YBA2HFO5.5 COMPOSITES BY RAPID QUENCHING IN AIR, Physica. C, Superconductivity, 219(1-2), 1994, pp. 141-144
The chemical reactivity and high-temperature superconductivity in the
YBa2Cu3O7-delta-YBa2HfO5.5 composite system have been studied by XRD a
nd resistivity measurements. No detectable chemical reaction between Y
Ba2Cu3O7-delta and the non-metal ceramic YBa2HfO5.5 was observed even
under severe heat treatment. It was found that the common procedure of
slow cooling at a rate of 2-degrees-C/min or annealing for several ho
urs at temperatures between 700-500-degrees-C after high-temperature s
intering is not essential to obtain superconductivity in YBa2Cu3O7-del
ta-YBa2HfO5.5 COMPoSites. A superconducting transition of 92 K was obt
ained in this system, for a wide composition range by directly quenchi
ng these samples in air from a sintering temperature of 950-degrees-C.
