Ionising radiation induces the formation of paramagnetic centres in th
e crystalline lattice of hydroxyapatite of bone mineral. These centres
can be detected and quantified by electron paramagnetic resonance (EP
R) spectrometry. These paramagnetic defects can be used as biological
markers in evaluation of crystallinity of bone mineral, measurements o
f speed of rebuiliding process of bone grafts and for estimation of ab
sorbed dose of ionizing radiation - spin dosimetry.
