Abstract
The crystal structure of N-benzyl-3,4-diphenyl-2-azetidinone, C22H19NO , shows that the relative configuration of the two chiral centres, C2 and C3, is trans, The N-C and C=O bond lengths in the beta-lactam amid e group are 1.33(1) and 1.26(1) Angstrom, respectively. The N atom is displaced 0.032 (9) Angstrom from the plane of its three attached atom s, i.e. Cl and C3 of the beta-lactam ring, and C16 of the benzyl group .
