Abstract
A new amorphous Al(87.3)Fe(4.3)V(0.7)Si(1.7)Mm(6.0)(Mm: misch metal) w as prepared by using melt-spinning technique. Differential scanning ca lorimetry (DSC), X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron micros copy (TEM) and energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) have been used to investi gate the crystallization behaviour of this amorphous alloy. It is foun d that the crystallization process can be concluded as follows: amorph ous --> amorphous plus fcc-Al --> fcc-Al plus Al-11(La,Ce)(3) plus i-p hase (icosahedral) --> fee-Al plus Al-11(La,Ce)(3) plus i-phase plus i c-phase (icosahedral compounds). The results of microhardness measurem ent show that HV values are higher than those in AI-Fe-V-Si based allo y, and the maximum HV value corresponds to the coexisting of nanoscale Al particles and i-phase.
