S. Ooishi, 2 ASCIDICOLID COPEPODS, BOTRYLLOPHILUS-MACROPUS CANU AND BOTRYLLOPHILUS-NORVEGICUS SCHELLENBERG, FROM BRITISH WATERS, Journal of crustacean biology, 16(1), 1996, pp. 169-191
Botryllophilus macropus Canu, 1891, and B. norvegicus Schellenberg, 19
21, are redescribed and illustrated on the basis of female specimens c
ollected near the mouth of the Firth of Forth, Scotland. The anatomica
l details presented in this paper deal with all of the diagnostic feat
ures of the morphotypes (Ooishi and Illg, 1988) to which these species
belong. (B. macropus belongs to Type B, and B. norvegicus to Type A.)
Descriptions by previous authors have been corrected. In addition, sy
mbiotic copepodids of B. macropus are described for the first time. Th
e present study will be helpful in solving some taxonomic problems tha
t remain in the genus Botryllophilus.
