A. Makynen et al., POSITIONING RESOLUTION OF THE POSITION-SENSITIVE DETECTORS IN HIGH BACKGROUND ILLUMINATION, IEEE transactions on instrumentation and measurement, 45(1), 1996, pp. 324-326
The effect of high background illumination on the positioning resoluti
on of the LEP and 4Q detector is studied. High background illumination
lowers the noise sensitivity of the LEP, whereas the noise sensitivit
y of the 4Q detector remains unchanged. The noise sensitivity drop rou
ghly from 0.5 to 0.3 was demonstrated in the case of the LEP. This mea
ns that by using an LEP instead of a 4Q detector, better resolution in
high background illumination could be achieved despite the higher inh
erent noise level of it.
