Em. Saiki et S. Biringen, NUMERICAL-SIMULATION OF A CYLINDER IN UNIFORM-FLOW - APPLICATION OF AVIRTUAL BOUNDARY METHOD, Journal of computational physics, 123(2), 1996, pp. 450-465
In this study, a virtual boundary technique is applied to the numerica
l simulation of stationary and moving cylinders in uniform flow. This
approach readily allows the imposition of a no-slip boundary within th
e flow field by a feedback forcing term added to the momentum equation
s. in the present work, this technique is used with a high-order finit
e difference method, effectively eliminating spurious oscillations cau
sed by the feedback forcing when used with spectrally discretized flow
solvers. Very good agreement is found between the present calculation
s and previous computational and experimental results for steady and t
ime-dependent flow at low Reynolds numbers. (C) 1996 Academic Press, I
