Abstract
The circadian variation of nitric oxide synthase (NOS) activity and cy tosolic protein content in the cerebellum, brainstem, hypothalamus, hi ppocampus, and the remainder of the brain were studied in rats. Both N OS activity and cytosolic protein concentrations were the highest duri ng the dark period and lowest in the light period. Hypothalamic NOS ac tivity exhibited the most pronounced change in activity with time incr easing by similar to 120% from mid-light to mid-dark.
