E. Chavez et al., ON THE MECHANISM BY WHICH 6-KETOCHOLESTANOL PROTECTS MITOCHONDRIA AGAINST UNCOUPLING-INDUCED CA2+ EFFLUX, FEBS letters, 379(3), 1996, pp. 305-308
This work shows that 6-ketocholestanol (kCh) inhibits the effect of ca
rbonyl cyanide-m-chlorophenyl hydrazone (CCP) on mitochondrial Ca2+ ef
flux. Such an effect proved to be caused by diminution of membrane flu
idity, therefore, it is affected by the incubation temperature. Furthe
rmore, kCh reversed CCP-induced Ca2+ efflux depending on the accumulat
ion of phosphate, It is also shown that kCh enhances the effect of car
boxyatractyloside on membrane permeability transition.
