Abstract
An autoantibody to <C(1)over bar>-inhibitor produced a clinical disord er resembling that of patients with hereditary angioneurotic edema. Th e antibody could not interact with <C(1)over bar>-inhibitor after expo sure to synthetic peptides representing the primary structure of the r eactive center region of the protein. Therefore the antibody recognize d this domain of the inhibitor, and ii probably impaired the function of <C(1)over bar>-inhibitor by altering its conformational properties.
