Abstract
(Trifluoromethyl)trimethylsilane (Me(3)SiCF(3)) was converted to (trif luoromethyl)tributyltin (Bu(3)SnCF(3), 1) in quantitative yield by tre atment with bis(tributyltin) oxide in tetrahydrofuran under fluoride i on initiation. Bu(3)SnCF(3) was found to readily trifluoromethylate di silyl sulfides at room temperature giving the corresponding trifluorom ethylated di- and trialkylsilanes in high yields. This method provides a new approach for the preparation of silicon-based trifluoromethylat ing reagents via transtifluoromethylation of compounds containing Si-S bonds.
