Mai. Elshaarawi et al., INDUCED LAMINAR-FLOW DUE TO A ROTATING SPHERE, JSME international journal. Series B, fluids and thermal engineering, 36(4), 1993, pp. 553-559
A non-iterative finite-difference scheme has been developed to solve t
he boundary layer equations governing the laminar flow engendered by t
he rotation of a sphere about its diameter in a stagnant fluid. Advant
ages of the developed numerical scheme are simplicity, low required co
mputer core storage, and less computational time. No points of zero me
ridional velocity gradient normal to the wall (separation points) coul
d be detected in the domain of solution (from the pole to the equator)
. The obtained numerical results for the meridional, azimuthal and rad
ial velocity components and for the torque are presented and compared
with the results of other investigators.
