Y. Kurauchi et al., FIBEROPTIC SENSOR WITH A DYE-MODIFIED CHITOSAN POLY(VINYL ALCOHOL) CLADDING FOR THE DETERMINATION OF ORGANIC-ACIDS, Analytical sciences, 12(1), 1996, pp. 55-59
Organic acids in aqueous solution were determined with a fiber-optic s
ensor having a chitosan/poly(vinyl alcohol) cladding. Interference fro
m ethanol could be reduced by controlling the crosslinking of the clad
ding with glutaraldehyde and by modifying the cladding with 5',5 ''-di
bromopyrogallolsulfonphthalein. The response time for 5v/v% acetic aci
d was within 1 min and the RSD was ca. 2% for 10 successive measuremen
ts. Coating of the cladding with an amorphous fluoropolymer increased
its durability and removed interferences from inorganic acids and non-
volatile compounds.
