The influence of the domain size on the properties of rotating waves i
n the NO + CO reaction on a microstructured Pt(100) surface is investi
gated for circular geometries. Below a critical domain size, determine
d by the spiral wavelength in an unbounded medium, the frequency of th
e rotating waves increases substantially due to interaction of the wav
e tip with the boundary. The phenomena are reproduced qualitatively wi
th a reaction-diffusion model.
