Abstract
Measurements of light-scattering spectra from rutile structure fluorid es using circularly polarized incident light have revealed vibrational Raman and Rayleigh optical activity when the incident light is tilted away from the crystal c-axis direction. This activity is shown to ari se from the depolarizing effect of the crystal birefringence on the in cident light.
