Abstract
We report a dramatic change in the magnetization double peak anomaly a nd irreversibility line of a Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+y [BSCCO(2212)] single crys tal after irradiation with 200-MeV Ag ions. We found that the partial destruction and ineffectiveness of dislocation networks in the CuO2 pl anes of the BSCCO crystal after irradiation are responsible for the di sappearance of the double peak anomaly. Ag irradiation induces damage in the form of columnar defects which cause an enhancement of flux pin ning and a shift in the irreversibility line towards higher temperatur es.
