Abstract
Two patients with sickle cell disease were diagnosed with aplastic cri sis caused by acute parvovirus B19 infection. One patient also develop ed thrombocytopenia associated with hemophagocytic histiocytosis in th e bone marrow biopsy. Both patients developed transient blood plasmacy tosis and hypocomplementemia soon after admission to the hospital. Tra nsient blood plasmacytosis may be an immunological response to acute p arvovirus B19 infection.
